review; The Aberration by Bard Constantine

When a freak storm engulfs a flourmill, the workers learn quickly that there is much more to fear than just heavy rain.

Something else arrives with the storm –macabre creatures that alter their shapes and features with every attack. In order to survive the night, the employees will have to rely on a man whose sanity is questionable. For he claims to have faced the same attacks before, over ages of time. He calls it an Aberration. A doorway that opens to a realm of nameless evils. What lies beyond wants to smother our world in darkness and perverse terror. It grows stronger with every passing moment, and all that stands between it and our world are the workers trapped in the building. Each person will be pushed to the very precipice of madness as reality distorts and the bizarre beings mount their attack. In the end, survival may not be enough to survive the Aberration…

The Aberration is a tale of mounting horror that will leave readers guessing until the very end. Author Bard Constantine blends creature feature horror with psychological terror, creating a story that both haunts and satisfies fans of both.

Prey that you survive the experience…

My thoughts
Chaos reigned from the the first page, it was clear this was going to be an action packed book from the beginning, and I hardly had time to take breath between the action.

Guy Mann and his co-workers are trapped inside the floor mill with "The others" faceless creatures who are determined to stop Guy from stopping the Aberration.

Is Guy as crazy as his co-workers think he is, or as he really already done all this before in past lives.

I enjoyed the flash backs in the book, I really felt it gave more depth to the horror that  was already happening in the mill and the struggles which Guy had faced before.

the story is told from different vies points which in the past I have found confusing but in this case the author does it effortlessness and really gave a sense of how each of the characters were dealing with the horror that was taking over the mill.
I loved how strong Fran was, despite how frightened she was at times she stood up to the creatures far better than any of the man.
Rob was a character that I couldn't have any respect for, for various reasons but no spoilers from me.
I liked both Guy and Michael, Guy may at times seemed a little insane, I think I would have followed him anywhere, Michael just wanted to protect everyone and stay alive

I don't often read horror as I'll admit I am a bit of a wuss but after reading the blurb I was too intrigue not to. I am glad I did.

A fast paced, action packed novel that keeps the reader guessing until the end and truth be told I still have questions I wouldn't mind answers too but I don't want to give anything away.

Thankfully or should I say surprisingly I actually slept after reading :-)

Nano madness

I have kinda been neglecting my blog for the last couple of weeks. I would like to say that it is because I am soaring ahead on my Nano, unfortunately that isn't the case, I feel behind quite a lot, I am just abut back on track after a few marathon sessions, Lack of story wasn't the problem, my characters are constantly shouting at me to get there words down, the reason for falling behind was mainly because the beginning of November is busy for me with various birthdays and bonfire night, I had thought I had done enough to stay ahead or at least keep up but then illness struck, typical. I am however feeling much better, and intend to catch up and hopefully finish on time, I just hope the story doesn't run out of steam.

It as already gone in a completely different direction to what I intended, but I have learnt to let my characters decide what they wanted from the story, I am also fairly certainly sure that one of the characters as changed her name half way through the story, Oh well December 1st isn't very far away best get back to the madness of Nano

Author Interview; Ashliegh Wolfgang

I am so pleased to be able to share this interview with you.
Ashliegh is the auther of the Ramblings of the damded series click to see my Review of the first book in the series The Devils Serum

You were originally a vocalist with the orphan punks what made you decide to write novels?

I was always writing fiction in some capacity for nearly as long as I can remember. I hadn’t given a lot of thought to making my work available to the public until recently however. I see a lot of parallels in music and books, both are an effort to express your thoughts and connect with others whether a listener or a reader. It just seemed like a natural progression in my case.

Where did you get your inspiration to write devils serum?

The Devil’s Serum revolved around a really simple thought. When someone is head over heels in love they feel invincible, and if that love is betrayed it feels like death. The one constant seems to be that time heals all wounds, but what if it didn't and what if that time were infinite. It would be an awfully big burden to carry for all of eternity. My protagonist Christian is in this very simple yet extremely complex set of circumstances, living with a wrong that can never be righted, or never forgotten.

Christian seems like a tortured soul how easy/hard was it to write his character?

It was easy to write Christian in some capacity, but it takes its toll on me. Christian is dark and unlikeable and doesn’t always make the best decisions, he’s emotional and reckless. I have to admit it gets difficult to smile when I’m writing Christian, I really am empathetic towards him.

You have three books in the devils serum series, what’s next?

I’m currently working on a longer work that is about a modern day 16 year old female vampire, it really is out of my comfort zone but I think it’s a great story. I also plan to finish The Ramblings of the Damned Series and resolve Christian’s story in the near future.

If you could invite just one author dead or alive for dinner, who would it be?

I think it would be Anne Rice, because not only do I love her writing and her characters but all indications are that she is just a really great lady, with really great interests and opinions.

What advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Just write. Write, write, and then write some more. It’s not all going to be gold but you’ll get better every time and eventually you’ll find your voice. Secondly, ignore negative critics…it’s easier said than done but the fact is that someone will always hate what you’re doing and if you try to cater to them you’ll lose someone along the way that already loved what you do. Write for yourself and your characters and those that enjoy it will follow, there is no sense in trying to reinvent yourself for those that didn’t care in the first place. Just write.

Finish this sentence when I am not writing I am……First and Foremost a father, I have no greater pride in life than my children. I already believe that they are going to be smarter and more prepared for what life brings than I ever was…and they are a lot better looking.

Thank you so much Ash for taking the time to do the interview, I cant wait to read more from the ramblings of the damned series and your new vampire story which may be out of your comfort zone but is smack bam in the middle of mine.

The Devils Serum, Book Blurb

When Christian met the girl that would become the love of his life, he thought it was the most amazing thing that could ever happen. It wasn't even close to the most amazing thing that happened that day. Christian discovers he has become immortal after drinking from a mysterious silver flask. Is this a gift or a curse?

The Devil's serum is the first installment of the Ramblings of the Damned series and is followed by The Devil's Folly (Book Two)

Ashliegh Wolfgang first gained notoriety as founding member and vocalist for National Recording artist "The Orphan Punks." The Devil's Serum novella is his first foray into writing fiction and has since been followed up by The Devil's Folly.

Review; Ever (Ever #1) by Jessa Russo

BOOK ONE in The EVER Trilogy

Seventeen-year-old Ever’s love life has been on hold for the past two years. She’s secretly in love with her best friend Frankie, and he’s completely oblivious.

Of course, it doesn't help that he’s dead, and waking up to his ghost every day has made moving on nearly impossible.

Frustrated and desperate for something real, Ever finds herself falling for her hot new neighbour Toby. His relaxed confidence is irresistible, and not just Ever knows it. But falling for Toby comes with a price that throws Ever’s life into a whirlwind of chaos and drama. More than hearts are on the line, and more than Ever will suffer.

Some girls lose their hearts to love.

Some girls lose their minds.

Ever Van Ruysdael could lose her soul.

My Thoughts

This was a slow starter for me, I was nearly halfway through before I was really into it, but once I was, I was completely hooked.

Ever as being in love with Frankie her best friend, forever. unfortunately he died two years ago and instead of moving he choose to hang around Ever's house, meaning she as never moved on, he of course as no clue of her feelings

then one day a moving truck pulls up next door to Ever's house. Frankie' s old house to be exact and in moves Toby, the new hot guy. Ever is instantly attracted to him and who can blame her, encouraged by her best friend Jessie she agrees to go out on a date with him and is surprised when he asks to take her out again.

Ever is torn between the boy she as loved forever  and who she cant have for obvious (ghostly) reasons and Toby the hot guy with the secrets. Secrets that when finally revealed will shock Ever more than anything as ever done before.

I loved this book, the love triangle was unique to anything I have ever read before and completely understandable.
Add to the mix Ariadne, Toby's ex girlfriend who is determined to get Toby back no matter what she as to do to achieve it. She doesn't car who gets hurt along the way as far as she is concerned Toby belongs to her and as far as she is concerned  Ever is just a silly girl who she could squat like a fly

I have many unanswered questions which I hope will be answered in book two.

also in my opinion (and it is only my opinion) Ever choose the wrong guy, although I completely understood her reasoning for her choice.

The end as a cliffhanger wanting me to read the next book NOW.

Review; The Sum of Random Chance by Lee Chambers

An eager rookie reporter for a small town paper who stumbles upon a mysterious girl foiling a grocery store robbery. Desperate for success, he sets out to make his name on her unique gift. Is this girl special or are all the magical moments pure coincidence? Do the random choices we make lead us down a path of no return or will he gain a sense of self-worth before he sells her out?

My thoughts

Lee Chambers does it again with another fantastic novel.

Cole Wilkes is just like any other reporter, trying to get that big story that will shoot him to the top and start binging in the big bucks. probably to pay for his annoying girlfriend Erin's wardrobe.

Cole's life takes a dramatic turn  While waiting in line to pay for grocery's with his girlfriend who he is arguing with. again. The store is held up by robbers, he begins taking picture while hiding away and is shocked when a mysterious girls seems to mesmerise one of the robbers. determined to get his scoop he decides to find out who she is.

Sara is such a lovely girl, the complete opposite to Erin. she will do what ever she can to help those who need it sometimes with kindness, others times with more mysterious ways

Cole as a choice. does he expose Sara and get his scoop or does he honour his friendship.

A beautiful story that teaches the true meaning of what is and isn't important and how the choices we make can no matter how small can have such a big impact on our world
