Review; Fissure (Chronicles of the Interred #2) by Marilyn Almodóvar

Baxter Jacobs just survived the worst Sweet Sixteen in history: buried in a coffin, hunted down by assassins, and losing almost everything that mattered to her. She’s ready for some normalcy, but “normal” won’t play any part of this Time Bender’s future.
Now that the immediate threat is over, Baxter learns just how much the English Council expects of the newest Interred. The pressure has her seriously considering her uncle’s offer to take her to New York, especially since she thinks it will keep her Healer, Jack, from overusing his abilities. Knowing the New York Council’s ranks are filled with beings using dark powers, however, makes her hesitate.

Before she can choose, the decision is wrenched from her. Fissures in Time result in a new battle with an old enemy. Someone she thought she’d lost reenters her life, and she’ll discover a web of lies woven into the fabric of Time…lies only she can unravel. Baxter will have to use her growing abilities to try and reveal the truth, even if it forever changes the reality she knows.

There are lies in the fabric of Time only she can unravel...

My thoughts
after Interred I was eager to get my hands on this book and as I never doubted Lyn did not let me down, it amazes me how she can write a book crossing many timelines and not get lost in what she as wrote not only that the but myself as a reader doesn't get lost either, and that says a lot as I have no sense of direction.

Baxter is back and is as snarky as ever and I love her for it, I hope she never changes. we also have the swoony and hunky Jack, he is another of my book boyfriends.

Baxter's journey in this book really as her questioning everything she thought she knew about the people she trusted. her boundaries are pushed and she will do things she can never be proud of and deeply regrets but self preservation is at the utmost of her mind if she wants to protect those she loves.

New characters are introduced in this book and I don't want to give anything away but it throws Baxter for a loop and not much can do that. We also have some of the same beloved (or not) characters from the first book and as Baxter evolve so do their, I think the way Lyn builds characters is amazing you really do feel like you know them... until you don't, they may not make a lot of sense but instead of reading my ramblings you could read the book yourself and find out what I mean.

As in the first book, I still love David, not in the swoony way because he is an elderly gent and that would be just weird, lol but I love him because he is Yorkshire like yours truly ;-)

I could quite literally scream at Lyn for the ending in fact I may have wrote he strongly worded email, however I cannot wait for the third book and hope I don't have to long to wait.

10 Things You Don’t Know about Jack Ashdown: from Interred by Marilyn Almodover plus giveaway

10 Things You Don’t Know about Jack Ashdown:

1.       When Jack was five years old, he managed to get stuck between the washing machine and the dryer.

2.       Jack and his twin sister, Jessica, used to be extremely close until he was forced to go to the States for his own safety.

3.       Jack’s known about his father’s philandering ways since he was quite small, and was asked to keep them secret.

4.       Teasing people and pretending to be a happy-go-lucky sort of guy is the perfect way for Jack to deal with his parents’ problems.

5.       Eleonor used to scare the pants off Jack.

6.       Jack’s never had a pet of his own.

7.       Before the Interment to help him concentrate, his father made him take music lessons. He plays the violin, piano, and trombone.

8.       Jack has one other tattoo, a dagger on his right hip.

9.       Though everyone thinks he’s dated a lot, Jack’s training prevented him from doing normal things like having a girlfriend. Even if he never admits to it, Baxter’s the first girl he’s ever kissed.

10.   Jack’s favorite band is The Libertines.

Review and Giveaway: Interred (Chronicles of the Interred #1) by Marilyn Almodóvar

Time has never been an issue for Baxter Jacobs, but then she never knew she had the ability to Bend it.

As her sixteenth birthday approaches, Baxter inherits a pendant that will change her life. Connected to the pendant is a dark and mysterious young man named Declan Ashdown. Trapped in a Time loop for the past 122 years, Declan needs Baxter’s help to escape. The only problem is, she has no idea how to do it.

To acquire the power she needs to free him, she’ll become one of the Interred, those whose Magical abilities emerge as they come of age. When she does, she’ll discover that Declan isn’t the only one interested in the fact that she’s a Time Bender.

As the Interment arrives, Baxter knows this will be no Sweet Sixteen. A vengeful relative and ruthless Council are determined to control her. Declan’s powerful and charming descendant, Jack Ashdown, claims he can save her. She’ll soon have to decide who she can trust, and how to master her new abilities before Time runs out.

My thoughts
Baxter is spunky, stubborn, sarcastic and loyal. She also as an inner strength that is tested to the limit time and time again. Her world is turned upside down as she approaches her sixteenth birthday. Her Mums cousin from England turns up uninvited and all but barges his way into their house he brings with him a box containing an onyx necklace with the name Declan engraved. Through Fred Baxter learns that she is not a normal teenager after all and she doesn’t come from a normal family. She comes from a family of magical beings and Baxter is a time bender, a unique power to have and one that is coveted by many. She will have to learn to master her ability to save herself from those that will do anything and hurt anyone to get it.

Amongst all this there is Declan. Declan has been trapped in a time loop for a hundred and twenty two years and only Baxter can see him. He promises to help her through her Interment and protect her all he wants in return is to be freed from his time loop prison.
Declan is arrogant yet charming from the Victorian era a lethal combination if you ask me and totally had me swooning.

And least we not forget Jack… Mmm Jack…. Forgive me I was day dreaming there for a moment Jack was totally swoon worthy and easily made it into my top ten swoonable book hotties. Jack is funny, sweet and easily a match for Baxter  and will do whatever he can to protect her and did I mention he is HOT!

Despite Declan and Jack been relatives and even though Jack cannot see Declan they dislike each other and so we find ourselves deciding who’s side to be on. Which one of these hot guys should we trust? Both have sworn to protect Baxter and both want to help her in her interment.

I wouldn’t call this a love triangle as I think it’s clear where Baxter’s heart lies but she does find it difficult when Jack and Declan just can’t agree on anything. I often wished I could bang their heads together. lol

This book as everything I love, a kick ass heroine, hot guys Magic and a twist at the end I never saw coming that changed my perspective on the entire book and left me all the more eager for book two.

I loved the popular culture references, I must admit to doing a fan girl dance whenever there was a doctor who mention or references *Doctor Who geek*

An exciting and unique take on magical beings and time travel

Harry Potter meets Doctor who in this brilliantly written book

An easy 5 stars

The Blurb
Have you ever wondered what could be hiding in the shadows?

Well, for eighteen-year-old Zahara Faraday, she doesn’t have to wonder. You see she comes from a lineage of Light Witches, those who have chosen to help protect and serve between the supernatural world and the human world. The only problem is Zahara, like her father Solomon, is as human as a human being can be whereas her mother, Mia, and her Aunt Catalina, were born as Light Witches. As a family they hunt down rogue supernaturals—creatures who harm humans or who have committed an act against their kingdom.

Zahara’s hunting skills are usually kept dormant since her parents would prefer she live life as a normal human girl without knowledge of the supernatural world. She plans on doing just that—except when she finds a couple being attacked by fairies, she has no choice but to step in. Before she can return to pretending to be blissfully ignorant, Zahara encounters a problem she isn’t the least equip to handle: Bryan Hamilton, the good looking new co-worker she has to help train. In a heartbeat, her best friend, Becca King, has set her up on a double date with herself and her new crush, Rekesh Saint-Louis, who happens to be the most powerful leader of the biggest Imago Coven in South Florida –supernatural creatures with the ability to control water . . . and suck out human souls.

Zahara has no time to focus on how she’s going to explain her double date with her best friend and the enemy they have a tentative truce with to her parents because soon one of the members of Mia and Catalina’s coven is found murdered with a strange tattoo of a snake with wings carved into his arm.

Zahara is then thrown into a whirlwind battle with an angel determined to have revenge against God, an Imago coven she doesn’t think they should trust, and slew of dream-eating fairies and powerful Nephilims, hybrid children of angels and humans, more than happy to rip her to shreds.

Normal just got a deadlier definition.

Next is Bitch Hollywood, different to the other covers I have chosen so far but I just love this cover
The Blurb
When handsome twenty-five year old Slovak Fillip wins the American Green Card Lottery, his dreams of being a Hollywood Costume Designer come a leap closer.

But Hollywood is a huge shock, moving from his down to earth comfortable life in London to the cut-throat world of Tinseltown.

Then a stroke of luck first meeting leads to a job with fading actress Veronica Madison - a movie star on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Soon Fillip is pulled into the dark and hilarious world she inhabits, surrounded by the famous (and infamous) residents of the Hollywood Hills.

Fillip faces a choice, to make his dream a reality should he become one of them; devious, manipulative, corrupt? Or will he choose happiness and return to the love of his life he left back home in London?

Bitch Hollywood is a jaw dropping, gut-busting comedy about the trials of life and love in the city where dreams are supposed to come true

the cover for Always and Forever I think is quite poewrful and beautifully sad especially having read the book
The Blurb
Mia's first reaction is outright disbelief. Obviously, a mistake has been made. Sixteen-year-old girls don't die. But, when the diagnosis is confirmed, she dives headlong into anger. If she has to die, why should it be of cancer? In fact, anything would be preferable to cancer. Better for her to say when, where, and especially how.

Determined to meet death on her own terms, Mia devises scheme after scheme to get the job done. A “fall” down the basement stairs, driving her car off a bridge, and even a dance with a train all end in her survival.

And through it all, Mia keeps her family and friends at arms' length with her destructive and hurtful behavior. With each failed suicide attempt and burned relationship, she slowly realizes that it’s not the dying that she’s afraid of, but the life she’ll be leaving behind. Now, that life is in a shambles. As time begins to slip through her fingers and death is upon her, Mia fights to rebuild the bridges she has destroyed, but can she do it before the clock runs out?
